It Can’t End Like This!

February 2, 2011

Agony and the lack of peace abounds in the Muslim world.

The world cannot end like this. Or this. Or this. (Consider the three photos to the left). It can’t end with the “whole world lying under the power of the evil one” (I John 5:19). Not with the promises of God in our favor. Not with the victory of Jesus Christ, who “came to destroy the works of the devil” (I John 3:8).

At Frontiers we have seen some early victories in recent years. A few teams have “finished the work” of church planting in Muslim cities. A few teams have been “de-commissioned.” But Oh! It’s too soon to celebrate, and too soon to quit. We press on to begin the work of the gospel beyond the borders, where there are no push pins in any mission maps.
I plead on behalf of unengaged Muslim peoples who live as we once did, “without hope and without God in the world” (Ephesians 2:12). I plead for those who have abandoned hope. It can’t end like this; Jesus said, “I have other sheep that are not of this fold; they too must hear my voice and be gathered in.” (John 10:16).
We are teams of desperate men and women, believing that we can change the world, working out our salvation among Muslims, humbled by our incompetence, bearing a costly discipleship, supportive of one another. Preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ where He is not known is our magnificent obsession. And we are not alone.
